The main topic of my master thesis is the pursuit of seizing the feeling and processes of nostalgia through text and subsequent material reinterpretation. I perceive these motives and experiences as almost ubiquitous for our times, be it on a personal level or as an often illegible and potentially dangerous means of manipulation. Moments of transformations, which the subjects of nostalgic optics undergo, became very important to me during the process – a certain deformation of reality and a following necessary new interpretation. I attempted to apply this approach to the final object originating from a contemporary everyday thing, subjected to layers of changes in its appearance and meaning.
The object should simultaneously act as a loose comparison to a physical experience of a nostalgic feeling – simulating the heaviness, fragility, and isolation that nostalgia can bring.
An everyday hoodie thus in the eyes of the nostalgic changes into an out-of-time armor covered in layers of non-sensical webs of medieval-inspired chainmail and „petrified“ wire headphones – a piece of technology turning into antiquity in front of our eyes.
